OULTON PARK QUALIFYING REPORT

P9 FOR TURKINGTON AS TIGHT TIMES DOMINATE THE HEADLINES AT OULTON PARK

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington will start race 1 tomorrow from P9 after an incredibly tight qualifying session left him slightly further down the order than he would have liked.  After a productive morning of practice the former double champion felt happy with the his BMW 1 series, but ultimately had a car a little off balance for the afternoon event.

CLOSE TIMES

With such a competitive field, one and a half tenths meant the difference between 9th and 3rd, leaving race day looking a very exciting prospect indeed.  Despite a slight upset to the balance of the BMW for Turkington for qualifying, he remains positive about Sunday’s races and feels the car can easily be steered back into the optimum window of performance.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“We started off the day this morning with a good car and one that I felt was only a minor tweak away from being perfect.  We ever so slightly steered our setup to what we thought would be best for qualifying in the afternoon but I think the track moved in that time and ultimately we found the car a little off balance for the qualifying session.

In usual circumstances you can still be there or thereabouts with lap time but these days in the BTCC times are so tight you end up paying a big price for being only 1% short on the perfect balance.

Nevertheless we are still at the sharp end and tomorrow looks like a great day of racing.  We know what improvements to focus on tonight and hope to be up fighting for podiums in the three races.  The BMW has raced well in the past round here and i’m confident tomorrow will be no different.”
