THRUXTON QUALIFYING REPORT

P10 FOR TURKINGTON

It was a day of “balancing the scales” for Turkington as Team BMW continuously searched for the optimum qualifying balance with the BMW 1 series.

Grafting hard, Turkington and his engineer tried every trick in the book to pin down the Team BMW car, but ultimately the margins of fine tuning for the best qualifying setup proved extremely sensitive.  Gaining in some areas only to loose time in another, P10 was the best that would be achieved today.  In yet again another tight qualification session the top 21 cars clocked a time within one second of each other.  P10 was by all accounts, a strong result.

UNIQUE

Thruxton provides a very unique challenge to the BTCC teams, as they search to refine the optimum qualifying setup for Saturday afternoon and also a race setup that can endure the indivudual characteristics of the circuit.

With an abrasive surface and blisteringly fast corners, Thruxton has taken many a victim with punctures and dramatically reduced lap times towards the end of the race.  Team BMW and Colin Turkington are content this mornings session and the test a few weeks ago has equipped them with the information to run three good strong races tomorrow.

“It’s such a fine line in finding the balance round here.  We tried every trick we had today but i just couldn’t get round any faster.  We’d find a little bit of time in one place only to sacrifice some somewhere else.

It was a very busy day of trying to balance the scales, but nevertheless I’m content with P10, and can definitely work from there tomorrow.”
