SETBACKS AND A COMEBACK AT OULTON

TURKINGTON SUFFERS MECHANICAL SETBACK AND CLUMSY CONTACT AT OULTON PARK

  • Colin Turkington endured a difficult Oulton Park race day yesterday (23rd June) with a clutch failure and contact ruining his weekend.
  • Oulton Park was basking in perfect summer conditions when Colin’s clutch failed departing the garages from race 1.
  • Unable to get off the line, the 4-Time Champ was pushed off the grid by marshals and later returned to the race several laps behind the pack.
  • It was race 2 when we saw the flair, fire and determination from the BMW driver; storming from last on the grid to 7th place!
  • Race 3 was looking good with strong pace on the harder compound tyre, before clumsy contact by two other drivers ended with Colin in the gravel at the final turn.
  • Once again, Turkington dug deep clawing his way back to 15th position, just enough to score one point from the race.
  • The summer break has now begun with over 4 weeks before the BTCC returns to Croft on 27th and 28th July.
  • Colin currently sits 6th in the standings.

HEAR FROM COLIN

“It was another difficult weekend for me here. My day didn’t get off on the right foot with a clutch issue. I had a great Race Two to get back up to seventh, which we thought would be good enough to get us a good position on the reversed grid, but they pulled sixth out of the hat, so I started seventh for the last race and on the hard tyre, as I’d used the soft in Races One and Two. The pace of the BMW was looking really strong on the hard tyre, but unfortunately I just got caught up in two incidents with cars coming through on the softs and ended up in the gravel. I managed to recover to 15th, so the positives are the pace was really good, but I just didn’t have the rub of the green.”
