SECOND ROW START AT SILVERSTONE

COLIN TURKINGTON MAKES IT COUNT IN RAIN AFFECTED QUALIFYING

  • Team BMW’s Colin Turkington secured a superb second row start for the first of tomorrow’s races.
  • The ultra tight qualifying session was hampered by on and off pockets of rain and a threatening sky.
  • Claiming P4, Turkington’s impressive result was another standout performance with 54kgs of success ballast.
  • The 4 x Champion’s lap time of 57:552s was an improvement on his 2019 time.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“I’m really pleased with the second row, and P4 is an excellent result for us considering the ballast. Saturday’s at Silverstone are usually a tricky one with a heavy car but today was even more difficult with the stop / start rain.

I could see the spots on my windscreen on the first lap out so I was primed to push, but then we had an usually early red flag. When we got going again it was critical to find space and log a time before the rain increased.”

It didn’t look like conditions were going to improve, but in typical BTCC fashion, the circuit came good again at the last. The key was being ready to go when the track shifted, and I’m glad I made this count when it mattered.

“The car isn’t quite where I would like it; there’s room for improvement ahead of tomorrow, but it’s promising to see what we were able to do today. We’ll get our heads down this evening and see what we can do.”

FINISHED: P4
