TURKINGTON RAMPS UP THE PRESSURE AS HE AIMS TO MAINTAIN FORM AT OULTON PARK
The BTCC returns to your TV screens this weekend as Cheshire’s Oulton Park plays host to rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the 2018 season. In what looks set to be another sun soaked weekend of action, temperatures are sure to rise as the championship standings remain incredibly close.
One such driver and car combination who relishes the heat is Team BMW’s Colin Turkington. After making a statement of intent with his performance at Thruxton last time out, Turkington is eager to keep the pressure on, aiming to close the 18 point gap to the top of the table.
IN THE GROOVE
The start of the season didn’t go entirely to plan for the Turkington BMW pairing, but the pace and performance of the former double champion have been clear to see. Surpassing expectations at Thruxton, Turkington and Team BMW put on a stunning display of class at the Hampshire circuit. It was here we felt the intensity of his hunger and desire, hinting at what may be yet to come.
TURNING UP THE HEAT
The next few events feature at circuits that have been extremely successful for Turkington in the past. Securing numerous pole positions, wins and podiums from Oulton Park and Croft throughout the years, Colin suggests that the nature of those two circuits can provide an opportunity for the driver to make a difference.
“I love this time of the season when everything is evolving and finding your groove holds the potential for a great reward.
We proved at Thruxton what we are capable of, returning to the podium twice at a circuit that has historically been difficult for us. There was a great deal of satisfaction when we left.
The warmer conditions suit us well and it’s also important to prepare for the demands on our bodies during these race weekends. The temperature in the cockpit is outrageous, but you must be comfortable in that uncomfortable situation. I really do enjoy these extra challenges.
You find that as a driver there is a slight opportunity at both Oulton Park and Croft to tease out a marginal bit of lap time. This presents further incentive to my preparations.
Head down, tail up.”
“There is great potential heading to Oulton Park, but you don’t score points for potential. We never stand still with our developments and now is the time to ramp up the pressure.”

BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Colin, Dick Bennetts and guests joined BMW UK at the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth last weekend. Part of the European Tour, the event was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with fellow BMW owners and enthusiasts.
“I look forward to the BMW PGA every year. It’s a world class event and I really enjoy watching other elite sportsmen at work. There’s so much to see and do in and around the BMW village and this year I was privileged to witness the first unveil of the new BMW 8 series. Combining luxury with performance, I look forward to seeing the M8 take on the 24 hours of Le Mans later this month.”
ALLIANZ GLOBAL ASSISTANCE
Colin recently spent the day at Allianz Worldwide Partners UK in Croydon for a talk in their 3rd annual ‘Learning at Work’ week. Asked to chat to employees about working in a high pressure environment, Colin enjoyed getting to meet some of the BMW operations team.Back to news
