TURKINGTON AIMS TO ‘BRING THE MAGIC’ WHEN BTCC LANDS IN SCOTLAND

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship makes its annual visit to Knockhill this Bank Holiday weekend with a roaring grid all keen to claim some Scottish glory. Just three events are left on the 2018 calendar with 21 exhilarating races already completed since April. Renowned for its edge of the seat and rollercoaster style action, Knockhill is sure to produce another heart racing instalment of entertainment.

TURKINGTON ON TOP

Currently top of the pile is Team BMW’s Colin Turkington after scoring his 130 the BTCC career podium at Rockingham last time out. Despite carrying considerably more success ballast, Turkington out-qualified his main title rivals and went on to score three top 7 finishes. With his signature sophisticated style, the BMW driver collected consistent results despite three very eventful races.

PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER

Turkington has been very modest with his reaction to retaking the championship lead, but his dedication and work ethic continue to set the standard. Combined with the expertise and passionate efforts from Team BMW, the duo rarely leave anything to chance. Forever pushing the development of the BMW 1 series, they refuse to become complacent about the ingredients required for success.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“Having been an instructor at Knockhill when I was studying in Stirling, I’ve a great affinity with the place. It is easily one of the weekends I look forward to the most for its positive vibes and energy.  With its high kerbs and rolling undulations, the circuit is a real challenge for the driver.

You need to be razor sharp straight out of the blocks!

Rockingham’s strong results were testament to the strength of our engineering department and the shared ambition within the team to keep turning up the heat on our rivals.  The car was well balanced and competitive in the races despite being up against the lighter and faster cars in qualifying.

It was a positive feeling retaking the lead of the championship after my podium in race 3, but the end goal is to be there after round 30 and that will involve a dedicated and passionate effort from myself and the team between now and the 30th September. I’ll be taking each session as it comes and will be keeping my focus solely on my own performance.

To be good at Knockhill you need to have the fire in your belly, and the focus and determination to convert it. I’m keen to get going and will be doing all I can to bring the magic.

The circuit is just over a mile long and there will be 31 cars jostling for position in qualifying.  Securing a strong grid spot for Sunday will be key.  The 1 Series has been very successful there in the past and Team BMW will be using all that experience in their preparation.”

GREATEST BTCC DRIVERS OF ALL TIME

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington was recently ranked in an industry poll as number 10 in the top BTCC drivers of all time.  The youngest driver ranked in the top 25, Turkington insists there’s plenty more to come!

“It’s a massive compliment and honour to be to acknowledged in the special BTCC feature.

In many ways it feels like I’m only getting started and I hope that together with BMW we can continue to add further success into the history books!”
