KNOCKHILL QUALIFYING REPORT

THIRD ROW START FOR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER IN ‘BUSY’ KNOCKHILL QUALIFYING

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington will start from the third row of the grid tomorrow following an incredibly close qualifying at Knockhill.

Securing P6 with maximum success ballast on board was a fantastic result for the Championship leader, yet he maintains there was more to come from the lap.

TRAFFIC

Turkington and Team BMW made progress throughout the day with the 3 Series and qualifying seen a considerable step up in pace from the combination. Traffic was the story of the session for Turkington unfortunately as 30 cars jostled it out for space on the twisty 1.27 mile Scottish circuit. Despite not pulling his three best sectors together, the final effort looked good for a quicker lap but was hampered on the last turn by a car heading out to do practice starts.

POTENTIAL AND PROGRESS

Colin Turkington admits to being slightly frustrated but looking at the bigger picture is happy with his starting position. Content that they nudged the car in the right direction all day, the defending champ feels the potential for race day is promising and he is confident with the package he has to play with tomorrow.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“I’m happy with the end result and we made good progress with the car all day. It wasn’t the ultimate lap as traffic seemed to pop up everywhere for me, and I just didn’t get the three sectors hooked up, but for that to still secure me P6 is nothing to complain about. We expect it to be busy round here and today confirmed that.

There is huge potential for race day. I have full confidence in the package underneath me.

It wasn’t the perfect qualifying but at this stage you have to keep focused on progress, not perfection. I love this place and am fully committed to the hard racing that lies ahead of us tomorrow.”
