BTCC PREVIEW: SILVERTONE

TURKINGTON DRAWING ON EXPERIENCE FOR PENULTIMATE PUSH AT SILVERSTONE

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The penultimate event on the BTCC calendar looks set to be a thriller as ‘The Home of British Motorsport’ plays host in the race for the 2017 crown.  Promising to be an action packed weekend of racing, Rounds 25, 26 and 27 at Silverstone will decide the title contenders entering the final showdown.

The first focus of the weekend will take place on Saturday afternoon, when the “make or break” qualifying session sets the scene.  Currently the only driver to have qualified in the top 5 at every event, Colin Turkington is hoping to continue his form.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”15860″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”15857″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

TURKINGTON’S CHAMPIONSHIP PUSH

On a circuit like Silverstone where overtaking opportunities are limited, securing a strong grid position for race 1 is key in setting up a good weekend and vital in the overall title hopes.  Sitting second in the standings and arriving with 66kgs of success ballast, Turkington knows the effort required but is certainly no stranger to this pressure.

As a title contender for the past four seasons, Colin has closed the season with a strong surge of results.  His controlled and calculated approach remains unrivalled and the experience of previous campaigns will only add to the push for this one.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”15867″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”15856″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

KEEPING IT CONSISTENT

Consistency has paid off this season for Turkington, highlighting the class and experience of the former double champ.  Despite the drama and distractions of the BTCC, he knows how to keep a title challenge on track.

Rockingham was a great example of this.  The BMW driver showed a depth of determination as he delivered an outstanding P5 in qualifying whilst carrying the maximum ballast of 75kgs.  Race 2 also showed the ability of Team BMW, as their developments with the HARD tyre revealed stunning race pace for Turkington.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“We’ve had a couple of weeks from Rockingham and it’s been really useful to thoroughly analyse our recent progress, reset and plan for the final two events.

We’ll be pushing our rivals to the limit throughout the next few weeks and we have to find the means to outperform them.   I’m confident that drawing on our experience of winning will be the secret in pulling the points back.

We were able to unlock a great deal of performance from the BMW on the hard tyre at Rockingham last time out.  This was a massive boost for our weekend and also a great step forward in our development.  For others it was the ‘damage limitation’ option; but we were able to confidently race with it.

The ability to do this is typical of Team BMW and bolsters my belief in our capabilities.  I’m looking forward to each of the three races.

This is one of the toughest championships in the world to win and at this stage of the season the pressure and demands on the drivers is substantial.

But I’ve been here before.  I know what I need to do.

The team returned from Rockingham and immediately immersed themselves in the preparation for Silverstone.  We’ve been clocking in some serious time to unlock every last ounce of performance we can find.  I’ve also been looking for performance from myself too.

Combining all our experience in these situations gives us such a wealth of knowledge to work from.  Albert Einstein once said, “The only source of knowledge is experience.”

We’ll be taking it one step at a time, but you can rest assured we’ll be throwing everything we have behind it.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
