‘EVERY WEEKEND IS A BRAND NEW START’, SAYS TURKINGTON AS HE HONES IN ON HAMPSHIRE

  • The fourth event of the 2024 BTCC season gets underway this weekend (8th / 9th June) in Hampshire when the BTCC circus comes to town in Thruxton.
  • Currently second in the standings is Team BMW’s Colin Turkington, who aims to keep racking up the points wherever possible around the fast and abrasive 2.356 mile circuit.
  • Colin put in the grind at a slippery and dramatic Snetterton last time out, when tyre choices and unpredictable weather tortured drivers and teams throughout race day. READ ABOUT IT HERE!
  • Once again, the new-and-improved BTCC Hybrid Energy Management looks set to shake things up for qualifying with Colin restricted to only 3 seconds per lap in qualifying and only 2 laps of deployment in race 1 on Sunday.
  • Despite this, Turkington is ‘just getting on with it’ and insists that every weekend is a brand new start as he prepares for the fastest circuit on the calendar.
  • One element not in play for this event will be the Goodyear option tyres, as only the HARD compound will be used.
  • Alongside the more settled weather forecast, decision making and operations should be more straight forward than at Snetterton.
  • Catch all the action LIVE on ITV4 from 11am and every race LIVE around the world on TikTok.

HEAR FROM COLIN

“Just when we thought the weather couldn’t throw any more curve balls at us after the Donington Park floods, Snetterton happened! Unpredictable days like that are extremely stressful for everyone within the team and I can’t remember one quite like that ever before. It was important to pick up as many points as I could, and despite things not going my way, as a team we kept our cool and collected points from every race. I was really happy with how we ended our day.

It’s important to learn what you can from those weekends and move on. Every race weekend is a brand new start and I like to reset, approach it with fresh vigour and a fresh mind.

We expect that the hybrid will impact qualifying as before but wherever or however we can nick a hundredth or two will be crucial. I’m looking forward to just getting on with it on Saturday, getting the car how I like it and not overthinking the hybrid disparities. The aim is always to make Q3 and set ourselves up for a racy Sunday.
