SNETTERTON QUALIFYING REPORT

PRIME P5 FOR TURKINGTON DESPITE TRICKY DAY AT SNETTERTON

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington will start race 1 tomorrow from the third row of the grid following a tricky day with his ballasted BMW. Continuing his quality qualifying form, Turkington secured P5 with a laptime of 1m55:330s and was delighted with his ultimate result, despite struggling with the balance of his car.

FEELING A BIT HEAVY

Track conditions were feeling significantly different from the two test days in July, and Turkington was finding the task of pinning down the optimum balance a slower process carrying the 54kgs. The competition was looking strong from the off with the adjusted balance of performance levels, and it was going to take a massive effort in qualifying to set up a positive starting position for race day.

MAKING IMPROVEMENTS

Turkington and his engineer Dan Millard made great strides with the BMW 3 series throughout the morning and are feeling positive about continuing on that process for race day.

COLIN TURKINTON

“We rolled out today with a car that felt very different on the track from the test here a few weeks ago, and had to go through the process of finding that optimum balance again. The weight takes the edge off your performance and slows the process down, which is what it’s supposed to do.

That said, we hit our potential today, put a good lap in, and it was a superb job. That’s all that matters to me.

The only way we can stay at the front is to keep the focus on making improvements within ourselves and our package and not get carried away with what the others are doing. We made great steps forward throughout today and what we need from the car tomorrow makes more sense after that afternoon session. It’s going to be tough out there in the races and with the tyre strategy we don’t quite know what to expect.

It’s not meant to be easy. We’ll keep putting in the graft and race smart tomorrow. I’m in a prime spot, and looking forward to the challenge.”
