190TH BTCC CAREER PODIUM FOR COLIN AT SOGGY SILVERSTONE

COLIN BOWS OUT OF CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT AFTER RACE 3 DNF IN TORRENTIAL CONDITIONS

  • Colin Turkington celebrated his 190th BTCC career podium yesterday (Sunday 22nd September) at a very soggy Silverstone, clinching second place in the second race of the weekend.
  • Storming to a stunning P2 in qualifying, the BMW driver showed great pace in both the dry and wet conditions on both days.
  • With a car just slightly ‘out of balance’ in race 1, Turkington finished in 5th position but went three better in race 2 to storm to second place.
  • Looking good for race 3, the 4-time champ needed a top result to remain in the fight for the 2024 crown, but torrential conditions following the green flag laps left the track submerged in water.
  • Aqua-planing on a straight line, the BMW was impossible to keep on the road and sadly Colin ended trapped in the gravel, just seconds before a safety car.
  • The DNF result leaves him out of the championship battle as the series heads to the season finale at Brands Hatch in less than two weeks time.
  • Despite this, Colin still leads the Goodyear WingFoot award, and will be hoping to clinch this title for a second time with another sensational season of qualifying performances.
