TURKINGTON CHATS MINDSET AND MENTAL PREPARATION

Four times British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington has opened up about the importance of a positive mindset and the impact his mental training has on his performance.

Speaking to the specialists at Ingram Faraday; the team BMW driver emphasized ‘attitude’ and ‘dedication’ as critical factors for success; and in a sport where tiny margins separate winning from losing, this is what makes the difference.

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE

“It’s the dedication to keep working. It’s to do with being humble, focus on your strengths, and facing your weaknesses head on. It’s your job to be a professional through and through- racing takes over your life.

You need to ignore the idea of whether you are winning or not: you just have to give the best of yourself, on any given day, and persist, persist, persist.”

I’ve seen some very talented young drivers who just have such natural ability that they start winning early on, but they don’t have the level of dedication that makes the most of their ability. “

ENGINEERED THINKING

Turkington’s desire to train his thinking, and to craft the best version of himself is one to be admired. He has taken the engineering of motorsport to a new level. His ability to deliver the most sensational comeback race at the 2019 season finale was nothing short of miraculous, and will forever be hailed in BTCC history. This was a remarkable feat only achievable with the mental strength of someone extra-ordinary.
