THRUXTON QUALIFYING REPORT

TURKINGTON PRAISES EFFORTS BUT LOSES OUT ON TIGHTENED UP GRID

Championship leader Colin Turkington will start from P11 in race one tomorrow following a difficult qualifying session today.

He will line up on the 6th row of the grid despite a tremendous effort; and believes the result is not a reflection of the positive work carried out by Team BMW since the last visit to Thruxton in May.

TIGHTEN UP THE BELTS

The qualifying session highlighted how much the level of competition has increased but despite this, Turkington insists the BMW is still capable of scoring well tomorrow, perhaps more from the second and third races than the first one.

WEIGHING IN

With success ballast also playing a huge roll in the overall lap times today, Turkington is positive on his performance and the job delivered by the team, and feels there is still a strong race day ahead for the 3 Series.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“That was a tough session for sure, but I’m happy we put our best foot forward. There wasn’t anything more myself or the team could have done.

The weight does its job on so many levels and particularity on a high speed circuit like Thruxton.

I was surprised to find out I was P11, but it’s proof of just how much the competition has increased. We’ll just keep our heads in what we are doing, and continue to do a good job. P11 does not reflect the efforts of myself or the team, but it’s not a terrible place to be!

We are satisfied we did all we could. That is a positive thing!

We’ll work hard tonight planning our race setup for tomorrow and look at going forward and scoring the bigger points in race 2 and 3. We have a strong car in there, and once we get a bit of weight out, it should come to life!
