TEAM BMW: HOW IT FEELS
Colin Turkington’s Blog
After the fantastic news on Friday 24th February of the return of Team BMW to the British Touring Car Championship, Colin explains the impact this has had on his motivation and the responsibility to deliver for such an Iconic Brand.I think it’s the dream of every driver to carry the iconic BMW colours, so it is a real honour for me to do so. The BTCC really is the place to be right now, with a packed competitive grid and an audience that is continuing to grow both trackside and via the free to air TV package.
I grew up being hooked on the Championship watching the likes of Steve Soper and Jo Winklehock race for BMW, therefore to step into their shoes two decades later and become part of Team BMW, makes me very very proud.
WSR have done a fantastic job over the past 10 years running BMW cars in the BTCC so this is also a huge and deserved reward for their success and dedication.
Personally, I’ve developed an even greater sense of motivation from this BMW injection and I’m confident the same applies up and down the team. I’ve had two previous Championship successes with WSR and BMW as an independent entry, so I am really excited about the opportunity to chase more titles as an Official BMW Racing Driver.
I’m really looking forward to driving the 1 series again this week as we test at Parcmotor Castelloli in Spain and the new-for-2017 BMW engine should further enhance the car’s performance.
I cannot wait to step out to race for the first time as Team BMW at Brands Hatch on the 1st April as we strive to make 2017 a successful chapter in the Team BMW British Touring Car Championship journey.TEAM BMW are currently in Spain on a week long test with the new 2017 BMW 125i M Sport.
Colin will be driving on Tuesday / Thursday and Friday at the Spanish Parcmotor Castelloli circuit.
