TURKINGTON JUMPS FROM P21 TO P4 IN FINAL 4 MINUTES

TECHNICAL GREMLINS HINDER QUALIFYING AS COLIN “THOWS THE CAR” ONTO THE SECOND ROW

Colin Turkington and Team BMW end Saturday’s qualifying session relieved at P4, but troubled by what could have been, after a technical gremlin hindered their sessions today. Starting tomorrow’s first race on the second row, Colin rescued a potential P21 start by “throwing the car at the track” in a committed bid to ensure his chances on Sunday.Sitting in 21st place with only 5 minutes to go, the Double Champion had yet to record a proper attempt at a lap, as technical issues refused to be solved. Showing his class and defying all odds, Colin converted the final four minutes into a P4 result. It was a remarkable achievement and a moment of awe for Team BMW.

FULL CLASSIFICATION

As cool, calm and collected as ever, Colin admitted that he simply refused to be beaten.

“I hardly had any laps out there. It was a case of just throwing the car at the track on those final few minutes and finding a lap. If you were to watch it back, it would be quite the hairy lap and certainly not how to drive the BMW around Oulton Park! I just ‘had’ to do something and refused to let this gremlin spoil my chances tomorrow as well.

I didn’t quite fancy starting on the 11th row!

The team have pulled hairs out this afternoon and despite not finding the solution for qualifying, I’m confident they will do. Underneath all of today’s stress, we have a great car in there and I’m looking forward to the races.”
