BTCC ROLLERCOASTER ROCKS UP IN SCOTLAND AS TURKINGTON MAINTAINS HIS FOCUS

The series now heads to Scotland with a guaranteed adrenaline ‘fix’ only days away. KEEPING THE FOCUS

Being successful around this challenging and relentless circuit is one thing, but delivering consistent podiums in the thick of a BTCC title battle is another. Colin Turkington and the BMW 125i have both shown their ability in the past here, and will be hoping to continue their current front-running form.

Colin secured a sensational double win here in the first year of the 1 Series in 2013 and hails his performance in 2014 as pivotal in sealing the Championship. With seven podiums under his belt this season, and only two points shy of the Championship lead, the calm and focussed Team BMW driver has reclaimed ground on his rivals throughout the past 6 races and doesn’t plan on letting up now.

“Knockhill is hands down one of the race weekends I look forward to the most. It’s a real challenge for the driver, and you have to be razor sharp straight out of the blocks.

The two full days at Knockhill takes it’s toll on your body, so I like to get there feeling fresh and invigorated.

Snetterton turned out a strong set of results for me and it was testament to the strength of our testing programme. The car was well balanced and feeling good from the first practice session, so even when the going got tough we could still push on for podiums. I’m sitting P2 in the Championship but my focus remains the same. I’ll take each session as it comes and keep aiming to score well.

To be good at Knockhill you need to have the fire in your belly and the guts, focus and determination to convert it.

The circuit is just over a mile long and there will be 32 cars jostling for position in qualifying. Securing a strong grid spot for Sunday will be key. The 1 Series has been very successful here in the past and Team BMW will be using all that experience in their preparation. TYRE OPTIONS

LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE

A very talented squad of people make up the faces behind the scenes in Team BMW. Each possessing the same passion and attention to detail as Principal Dick Bennetts.

Colin’s engineer Kevin Berry has been working with him since 2013 and his number one mechanic Lewis Dickerson is on his sixth year with Team Turkington. Team BMW’s chief mechanic Steve Buckell has been with West Surrey Racing long before Colin joined the team and continues to be a leading force 25 years on.

Also working with Colin this year is mechanic Ryan Allison, data engineer Aaron Snape, logistics manager Carl Mitchell and tyre technician Simon Wood. Former WSR driver Nick Foster is another important addition to the squad on a Team advisory role.
