BTCC SEASON UP AND RUNNING

TURKINGTON TAKES TO PODIUM AT DRENCHED DONINGTON SEASON OPENER

  • Colin Turkington got his 2024 BTCC season off to a fantastic start yesterday (Sunday 28th April) with three top 5 finishes.
  • Securing P3 in the new ‘Quick-six’ qualifying format on Saturday, the Team BMW ace followed this up with 4th, 5th and 2nd place finishes in Sunday’s races.
  • It wasn’t a straight forward day however, the first race only kicked off after lunch due to flooded gravel traps, water logged grass and unsafe circuit conditions stalling the start of the action.
  • Despite this delay to racing, Turkington’s Team BMW 330e M Sport impressed the 4-Time Champ, as winter upgrades translated into an improvement of pace in all conditions.
  • The final race of the day produced a glimpse of what’s to come from the package, with a storming and intentional drive by the BMW driver, from 5th to 2nd.
  • Sunday’s second and third races also showcased the increased power from hybrid deployment this year, allowing all drivers to significantly boost ahead in defence or attack.
  • Colin’s ‘solid without being spectacular’ results put him 4th in the BTCC Drivers Standings with 41 points.
  • Next up is Brands Hatch Indy less than two weeks away on the 11th and 12th May.
