BTCC HEADS TO SNETTERTON

The British Touring Car Championship roars back into action this weekend

The 6 week Summer silence will draw to an end on Saturday, as the UK’s premier Motorsport series heads East to Norfolk for rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2016 season.

The longest circuit on the BTCC calendar, Snetterton boasts 2.97 miles of long straights and a variety of turns requiring a well handling chassis and plenty of engine power.

It will be a welcome return to action for the BTCC fanbase, as the series continues to grow in popularity year on year. This season witnessed over 40,000 trackside supporters at Oulton Park as the close and unpredictable racing lures more and more fans from other series such as Formula 1.

Never experienced before in its 50+ year history, the BTCC has seen 10 different winners in 15 races throwing the title fight wide open. With just 62 points separating Colin Turkington from the top of the table, (and 67 points available at each event) anything is possible in this second half of the season.

Showing commanding form at the previous two events, Turkington made history at Oulton Park claiming the first ever BTCC win for Subaru. In only 150 days the Silverline Subaru BMR Racing team transformed a standard road car into a race winning wonder.

The Double Champion then went on to score another impressive win at Croft as he maintained his record as the most successful driver of all time at the North Yorkshire circuit.

Following Croft, Turkington headed to Snetterton for an official Dunlop two day test in his number 4 Subaru Levorg. Although the weather was mixed, Colin managed to clock up 140 crucial laps (including 5 race simulations) throughout the test, by far the most of any driver. Previously arriving at each circuit without any running at all, this track time will surely help the team and Colin fight for honours this weekend.

Colin enjoyed a dream weekend at Snetterton last year scoring pole position, 2 wins and 2 fastest laps. Although a set of results like this have yet to be achieved in the championship so far this season, the current lap record holder will certainly be aiming to get the best out of his Subaru Levorg and move further up the standings.

Colin’s blog:

“We made considerable progress with the Levorg in the most recent races, despite limited testing and difficult circumstances. It was fantastic to finish the first half of the season with 2 wins and some valuable test miles.

It was a career highlight to deliver the first ever win for Subaru in the BTCC and I’m hoping to further reward the team, my partners and fans with continued form. This will be the first event we arrive to having had a test day at the venue and that should help speed up our progress over the weekend. I’ve done all my homework and I’ll arrive to the track on Friday ready to push the project forward again.

It’s going to be extremely difficult to replicate last years efforts, but it won’t be for the lack of trying on my behalf. I’ve managed to squeeze in some quality R&R after a very busy first half of the year and I’m looking forward to getting back in the car and putting all my summer training and preparations to good use.”

The team have been working tirelessly on the cars with only a few days break since Croft and I need to present myself ready to take over the reins and deliver some strong results.

As always, all the live action will be shown on ITV4 on Sunday from 10.30am with plenty of behind the scenes pictures and information online from Colin’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
