TURKINGTON ON TOP AT KNOCKHILL

30TH BTCC CAREER POLE, AS COLIN FLIES HIGH IN SCOTLAND

  • Colin Turkington produced a stunning performance over the weekend, claiming pole, two podiums and a 9th place finish.
  • Flying high at Scotland’s Knockhill Circuit, Team BMW’s Turkington excelled in his BMW 3 Series and despite a tricky reversed grid race 3, was the top points scorer of the event.
  • The former 4-time champ was untouchable in every session on Saturday and converted this dominant qualifying performance into a storming race 1 victory.
  • Clinching his 71st BTCC win, Turkington went on to record his 187th podium in race 2.
  • For the first time in recent history, Scotland’s stunning Knockhill circuit was bathed in warm sunshine on race day and provided perfect conditions for the Team BMW driver.
  • Knockhill provided dramatic scenes as per usual, with cars on two wheels, close racing and intense on-track battles.
  • Colin has closed his gap to the championship leader by over 20 points, with nine more races still to come.
  • Next up is Donington Park on 24th and 25th August, when the BTCC will take to the exciting GP circuit after already competing on the National loop at the beginning of the year.

HEAR FROM COLIN

“It was a super weekend and a great way to bounce back after Croft. Reflecting on the weekend; pole, win Race One and podium in Race Two… just brilliant. Knockhill is a real test for driver and team and we delivered on all fronts.

I started Race Three 10th and finished ninth – it was like snakes and ladders out there. Sometimes the race doesn’t unwind the way you want and that was the case, but the aim was to score points and we’ve done that. We had really good pace with the BMW and I’m excited for the rest of the season.”

RESULTS

Qualifying: P1

Race 1: P1 + fastest lap

Race 2: P3
