DONINGTON PARK QUALIFYING REPORT

POLE FOR TURKINGTON AND THE NEW BMW 3 SERIES

Colin Turkington will start race one at Donington Park from the front of the grid in his new BMW 3 Series.

Securing his first pole position since 2016 and the first for West Surrey Racing since 2015, the reigning Champion blasted his BMW to the top of the timing boards at the beginning of session with a stunning 1m09:871s.

DIFFICULT DONINGTON

The weather was proving extremely difficult once again with cold and changeable conditions dominating morning practice. FP1 took place on wets with the second session running on a drying circuit. The rain eased as qualifying approached and with a brisk wind it was a dry circuit by the time qualifying started.

TOP TURKINGTON

Keen to get a banking lap in at the beginning of the session, Team BMW’s Colin Turkington was a man on a mission from the off, clocking a time that was ultimately untouchable during the rest of the session. Collecting a point for pole and claiming his first in a few years, Colin was delighted for the team and happy to give himself a positive starting position for tomorrows first race.

“It was a really difficult session and the first time we had run in the dry all weekend. I’m really pleased and so happy for everyone in the team to secure the first pole for the BMW 3 Series and the first for the team who have been without one for a good few years too.

It’s never been one of the best tracks for the BMW but with this new 3 Series we are definitely in the best position we’ve ever been in.

It’s nice to start on the front row tomorrow and give ourselves a good chance in race 1. It was always going to be a challenging qualifying session today with the weather and it feels good to get a reward for all of our efforts lately.

I haven’t lost my touch just yet!”
