TURKINGTON QUALIFIES P12

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It was a qualifying session of mixed fortunes for Colin today as he found himself out of his car for the final 7 minutes.  Turkington’s second set of tyres were just about to come on when he was forced to box with concerns over the structure of an ancillary component.  On a quick investigation the the team decided it best to call it a day and gather a thorough understanding of the problem.

Fortunately Colin had banked a good time on his first run and in the end it was good enough to keep him in the mix.  With plenty of unlikely candidates present in the top 10, it’s a grid position of twelfth for the Team BMW driver tomorrow.  Six drivers including Colin recorded lap times on the same tenth of a second, as the top 12 are separated by little over half a second!  Rain is also forecast for race day, and so it is shaping up to be an Easter Sunday of incredible battles and racing.

RESULTS

P1 – Ashley Sutton

P2 – Rob Austin

P3 – Jack Goff

P4 – Tom Ingram

P5 – Aidan Moffett

P12 – Colin Turkington TEAM BMW

P15 – Rob Collard TEAM BMW

P16 – Andrew Jordan TEAM BMW

Pleased with where he will start despite the problem, Colin was well aware topping the time sheets would be difficult around the fast East Midlands circuit.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”COLIN TURKINGTON COMMENTS”][vc_column_text]“I’m glad I got a reasonable time in before the problem forced me to retire from the session.  Despite not getting a second run on fresh tyres we were still able to hang on to 12th and I’m still in the mix.  It’s all to play for tomorrow with such a mixed up grid and I’ll be working hard to move forwards.

There were areas I felt we could have improved on but in situations like this, you have to be thankful for the problem to have happened on Saturday and not Sunday.  Team BMW turn out the most reliable cars in the paddock and this was just a little ancillary part failure that was out of our control.  We have opted to change the engine before tomorrow on a precautionary basis and to keep all bases covered.  I’m confident of what we can do in the races.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
