BTCC CROFT: PREVIEW

TURKINGTON CONFIDENT AND READY TO RACE

Colin Turkington arrives to Croft Circuit for the next instalment of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship joint top of the standings as the series resumes this weekend 15th and 16th June.  Following a successful meeting at Thruxton last time out, Turkington moved to the top of the leader board and will subsequently carry 48kgs of success ballast.

A SUCCESSFUL MIX

The triple champion has enjoyed plenty of success at the Yorkshire circuit over the years and will be keen to add to that strike rate with the BMW 3 Series.  Working closely with new engineer Dan Millard, Turkington has successfully got under the skin of his new BMW and in doing so has racked up 102 championship points over nine races.  Admitting he was not surprised the relationship was working well, he also expressed his relief that the change in leadership had been seamless.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“It feels like Thruxton was ages ago but that time was important to understand the development of the BMW, analyse my performance and identify areas that we can improve. To be honest I was glad of the breathing space to take stock which in turn has given me the confidence to take the next step knowing we are going the right way.

We’ve covered so much ground with the 3 Series in such a short space of time and you must make a conscious effort to stop and fully understand everything before you can plan your next attack.

Looking back, a key factor in my season to date has been the excellent team around me.  I knew that Dan was going to be a real asset, and that we would work well together, but it is also a huge relief that the change has been a seamless one.  We are a tight little unit, and this brings as much motivation as it does confidence.

I’ll be qualifying with some weight in the car so will need to ensure I maximise everything from myself and the BMW.  Accurate engineering and bravery will be the difference between a good qualifying and a great one.

The circuit has been completely resurfaced; coincidentally by one of my long term partners TARMAC; so I’m keen to get out in practice on Saturday morning and understand the grip level.

There is just something about Croft and it’s unique challenges that really excite me.  It’s easily my favourite circuit on the calendar.  Historically the BMW has achieved great success here also, so the pressure is on to keep that story going with the new 3 Series.

The season so far has highlighted the excellence of the team within West Surrey Racing and it’s up to us drivers to continue to deliver the results both they and BMW deserve.  I’m prepared to raise my game and keep on pushing.”

TO THE TOP AT THRUXTON
