Countdown to Croft

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to North Yorkshire in four days time, as the UK’s premier Motorsport series rounds off the first half of the season. It’s been a whirlwind of a campaign so far for Colin Turkington and he arrives to Croft buoyed from his recent ‘history making’ performance at Oulton Park.

Sitting outside the top 10 in the Championship, the Double Champion will arrive with no success ballast for qualifying and Race 1, putting him in a favourable position against the rival machinery.

Turkington currently holds the lap and race records at Croft and has been super successful in recent BTCC times, taking a total of 10 wins at his favourite circuit. With the weather looking pleasant and the excitement building ahead of the event, Croft is set to see a record attendance, as fans flock to see who will enter the mid way break as the man to beat. With nine different winners in the previous twelve races, and Silverline Subaru BMR Racing now back up to the front of the pack; the level of competition is tighter than ever.

COLIN SAYS:

“As cool as it sounds, I don’t consider myself the ‘King of Croft’, but I do look forward to it every year. It’s always the last event before the halfway point and it’s a good opportunity to make your intent known to the rest of the pack.

Following on from our success at Oulton I will certainly arrive at Croft aiming high and it’s important to capitalise when we have no success ballast. I’ve got some wind in my sails at the moment and I don’t intend on taking my eye off the ball.”

Croft usually coincides with my eldest son’s birthday, so the pressure is on to deliver the trophies for him; I suppose that tends to add further incentive for success. We’ve made many happy memories at Croft over the past seven years, so fingers crossed it continues this time.ABOUT CROFT

“Croft is a true technical challenge for driver and machine and the surface is very hard on tyres. This weekend we will be using the hard compound Dunlop tyre for one race instead of the soft. Historically Croft has favoured rear wheel drive, and I’ll be aiming to build on that tradition.”
