THIS WAY TO BRANDS HATCH

BTCC ACTION RETURNS AS ALL ROADS LEAD TO KENT

  • Colin Turkington will return to the seat of his Team BMW 330e this weekend (11th / 12th May) as the second event of the 2024 BTCC calendar gets set to get underway at Brands Hatch.
  • It was an exciting albeit weather inflicted start to the season two weeks ago, as Donington Park showcased the enhanced impact of the hybrid deployment along with the new and improved qualifying ‘Quick-Six’ format.
  • Turkington came out fighting, with an impressive qualifying performance and a punchy race car, securing three top 5 results.
  • Brands Hatch will debut the hybrid energy management system usage in qualifying as the top 7 championship position drivers will have limited boost on Saturday.
  • Expect a mixed up grid for race 1 and a day of thrilling races!
  • The SOFT compound tyre will also make its race day debut for this season and must be used for one of the three races – adding further spice to the races.
  • With only a few days left to wait, set your TV’s for Sunday at 11am!

HEAR FROM COLIN

“Going through the hybrid allocations and knowing the impact it’s having so far this year, I’m actually really looking forward to Brands. I left Donington feeling confident about my package for this year and motivated about the opportunity the rule changes have added. WSR did a fantastic pre-season effort and the fruits of that showed at Donington. It’s important for us to get into the groove now and be smart – this season is going to be more tactical than previous ones.

The race weekends come thick and fast this year with one every other week, and that’s exciting for the fans.

Qualifying will be very interesting this time at Brands Hatch as we have the hybrid energy management (success penalty) system in operation that wasn’t in play at the season opener. The ‘Quick-Six’ qualifying added to the intensity of the Saturday session and I loved that demand for performance. You basically went out, got everything up to temperature and had one or two laps to deliver. The conditions were difficult too, so it really was a baptism of fire for the new format.

The weather forecast is looking kinder for Saturday and Sunday so hopefully operations will run more smoothly and the BTCC fans can enjoy some sunshine and exciting motorsport action instead of wading through floods and mud!”
