BRING ON THE BATTLE – BRANDS HATCH

BRING ON THE BATTLE – BRANDS HATCH

Unpredictable and enthralling, the BTCC season finale is set to be one of the greatest title deciders in recent years.

In only a matter of days the 2016 BTCC Champion will be crowned as 8 possible contenders arrive at Brands Hatch with a hope and a prayer. Although leader Sam Tordoff has an 11 point advantage at the top of the standings, a maximum of 67 points are up for grabs over the weekend. Add to that a pack of hungry wolves breathing down his neck and you’ll soon understand the pressure and tension that awaits.

One of the greatest locations to host a Championship decider, the 2.43 mile Grand Prix circuit in Kent will see passion and pain as the BTCC’s best battle it out. With much more than just the final standings at stake; inter team rivalries, rookie bragging rights and possible further race winners can come to the fore under the intensity of rounds 28, 29 and 30.

Sitting only 37 points shy of the leader, Colin Turkington still has plenty of work to do but is confident in the potential of his RWD Subaru. The stand out performer from the final two thirds of the season, Turkington has been the most consistent and highest point scorer since round 10 at Oulton Park. Scoring 231 points in only 18 races puts him top of the pile in terms of performance.

Colin ensured his spot in the season finale showdown after a stellar performance at Silverstone last time out. Coming from the back of the grid in race one, he went on to score two 4ths and an 8th place finish.

Landing at Brands on Friday, he will aim to move as far up the leaderboard as possible and cement his position as the lead Subaru driver.

Although I’m regarded as an outside contender for the title, it’s still pretty impressive that we are involved in the season showdown. Even in a ‘normal’ Championship year to arrive at Brands with a shout of the crown is always the goal. To achieve that in our first season with the Subaru is a great reward for everyone involved. We have all worked incredibly hard and put everything into this project. To be in the Championship fight despite the challenges we faced early on is amazing.

It was only six months ago at Brands Hatch that my car turned a wheel for the first time so to return there as a Championship contender is an enormous confidence boost.

Brands GP should suit our car and it’s the track that holds the most special memories for me, having won my first race there and clinched both my championships. I’m aiming to build on that and won’t give up the fight until I’ve crossed the line on the final lap of the final race.
