SECOND ROW FOR TURKINGTON IN HOTLY CONTESTED QUALIFYING SESSION

The first qualifying session of the 2018 season got underway this afternoon at an overcast Brands Hatch.  Times had been incredibly close throughout the two morning practice sessions and after missing 20 minutes to install a new water pump, Colin Turkington suggested he may be on the back foot going into the important decider.

QUALIFYING

Proceedings got underway at a cloudy ciruit as the drivers headed out eager to see where the cards would fall at the beginning of the new season.  A stunning lap from Colin Turkington early on was enough to put him P4 before later being promoted to P3.  Very few improvements on lap times were made as the session went on and P3 looked set to stick. It was another typical BTCC nail biter as the top thirty cars all qualified within one second of another, and as the flag waved to signal the end of the 30 minutes, Team BMW looked delighted with the second row start.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“We had to draw on all our experience with the 1 series BMW in pinning down a setup as we found the ambient and track temperatures were up quite significantly from our test here a few weeks ago.

I was a little unsure where we would fall in the pack as you never can tell in testing who is showing their hand.

I wrung every last bit of time from the car out there and we know where we can dial things in for tomorrow.

It’s pleasing to be on the second row for race 1 and the plan is to string three strong results together.  Easier said that done in this Championship!

With the top 30 cars all within one second this afternoon the fans are in for some proper close racing tomorrow!”
