SEASON FINALE TO DECIDE 2017 CHAMPION AS TURKINGTON INSISTS HE’S HUNGRIER THAN EVER

The excitement surrounding the BTCC decider this weekend is electric and with only days to go until the 2017 Champion is crowned, the stakes could not be higher. With only ten points separating the top two contenders and a maximum of sixty seven available, the battle looks set to deliver an incredible climax.

Already a double Champion, Colin Turkington knows just what it takes to become one of the BTCC heavyweights and his continued work ethic remains second to none. Applying an almost forensic approach to his preparation, Turkington’s calculated method is a vital component of his title attack. Combining this with his controlled and intelligent race craft, the Team BMW driver remains one of the most consistent BTCC racers of all time.

2017 saw the return of Turkington to both BMW and West Surrey Racing, a team just as successful and methodical as the Northern Irishman. Turkington and West Surrey Racing have some serious experience between them and in a series as closely fought as the BTCC, experience can easily make all the difference.

The BMW 1 Series has been competitive at every meeting this year and this is something Turkington and Team BMW have worked hard for. An intensive winter testing programme kicked off their season together, along with the addition of the new for 2017 BMW B48 engine. The team have successfully developed the car throughout the season and rightfully deserve their current position at the top of the Manufacturer’s and Teams standings. Continuing on with this approach, the Team BMW engineering personnel have left no stone unturned in advance of this weekend’s title decider either.

IT’S GAME ON

Colin will arrive at Brands Hatch only 10 points behind his rival, but an important 9kgs lighter for qualifying and race 1. This proved crucial at Silverstone when he was able to out-qualify and out-score him in two of the three races.

“The buzz about this weekend is incredible and I’m raring to get going. Once we arrive at Brands on Friday it’s game on and I can assure you I will be giving it everything I have.

When it comes down to it, you have to have complete belief in your car, your ability and the team. There isn’t one doubt in my mind about any of this. I know we can do this.

The volume of work and resource that has gone into the BMW this season fills me with confidence and this can only improve our chances. When you take into account how competitive we were here at the Indy circuit in April, all the right signs are there.

I’ve enjoyed some fantastic races around Brands Hatch GP throughout the years. Clinching both my titles were life changing moments and last year’s double win was also a pretty memorable one.

I want this more than ever and I feel I’ve worked harder than ever. We’ve busted ourselves day in and day out to be in this position and I can assure you there is only one result on my mind.

Second place is not an option for me.

TYRE OPTIONS

The BTCC grid will use the SOFT compound as the option tyre at Brands Hatch. The drivers must choose which race they will run the option tyre before the final qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. Their final choice has been predetermined by the race nominations made throughout the year.
