BRANDS HATCH GP PREVIEW

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS…

2018 CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED ON SUNDAY

After 27 thrilling races, just 3 remain in the 2018 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. Taking place at Brands Hatch this Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September, the season finale will see only one victor, as the 2018 Diamond Jubilee Champion is crowned. Heading the queue with a 34-point advantage is Team BMW’s Colin Turkington. Hungry for his third BTCC title, the Northern Irishman believes his BMW will be on the pace at the Grand Prix circuit, a place where he has recorded significant success in the past.

CHAMPION IS A STATE OF MIND

Already a double Champion, Colin Turkington knows just what it takes to turn up year on year and challenge for the title. A contender since his return in 2013, this weekend will mark the sixth consecutive year he’s been in the hunt for the title at the final weekend. Equipped with desire, determination, focus and the will to win, Turkington is a textbook example of the ‘Champion’ state of mind.

COMPETING TO BETTER HIMSELF

The Team BMW driver is not necessarily the one who always wins races, but he gets out there and gives everything, and tries harder the next time, and even harder the next time. The devotion he applies to his sport is second to none as he competes to improve himself as much, (if not more) than to beat his rivals. Win lose or draw, Colin Turkington is a truly admirable athlete, whose trademark humble and classy style shines just as bright on and off the track.

COLIN TURKINGTON

“I’m counting down the days to Brands Hatch, I’m so ready for this.

Yes, there will come moments of stress and pressure but if you’ve prepared mentally and physically, then you have nothing to worry about. I’ve nothing to fear and everything to gain.

Arriving to Brands as a contender is such a special feeling and one I live for.

It takes years of experience and mental training to be able to control the emotions that creep in on those big days.

Having to perform on that stage ignites another level of performance from me. I’ve had some of the best races of my career at Brands Hatch GP, and this year I’ll be doing everything I can to improve on that.

Looking back at our season I’ve got no regrets and nothing but satisfaction…when things could have unravelled, we tied it back together. I know that you can’t afford to have excuses, you have to just get busy with what you’ve got.

Donington Park was unchartered territory for me and the team, but how we recovered set us apart. This was just one of the barriers thrown in my way this year, but the hard times make you step up to the next level. I’ve never lost sight of my goal.

I’ve been in continuous dialogue with Dick, Kev and the team back at base since Silverstone. We had a competitive race car there, but what was good enough last time out, won’t be good enough next time. We’re leaving nothing to chance and have exhausted everything we can to find gains.

I’m confident the car will respond well to the time, energy and expertise that’s been invested in it.

My team have been exceptional time and time again this year. Their passion spurs me on.  I have full belief in those around me.

The disappointment of last year was the stimulus for this one. It’s coming home with me this time.”

“A champion is someone who gets back up when he can’t.”

Jack Dempsey
