BRANDS HATCH GP QUALIFYING REPORT
STUNNING POLE POSITION FOR TURKINGTON

Championship leader Colin Turkington put on a dazzling display at a damp Brands Hatch this afternoon to secure pole position for race one tomorrow.
Claiming P1 by 0.3 seconds, the Team BMW driver was sensational in his early efforts, taking the top spot from the beginning. It was a position he was retain for the complete session despite championship contenders throwing everything they had to compete. Looking composed and in control, the triple champion brought the XFactor to claim his third pole position of the year, and the 20th of his career.

BONUS POINT
Turkington now has a 17 point advantage at the top of the standings ahead of tomorrows three races after collecting a bonus point for the result.

TRICKY CONDITIONS
The day was troubled with on and off rain all day, providing tricky conditions for everyone. Qualifying was wet and because of changing conditions all morning in practice, many drivers and teams felt they were rolling the dice on setup. Ultimately it was the reigning champion and Team BMW that set the pace, putting a string of blistering laps together on an extremely tricky circuit.

COLIN TURKINGTON
Poles are always something to smile about, they are so hard to come by and I wasn’t expecting that today!
The wet conditions helped mute the issues we usually experience with the success ballast, so had it been a dry session, I’m not sure P1 would have been possible. But we put our best foot forward today. We should be proud of that.
That was certainly the toughest day and session of the season; the continuous changing weather all made it so hard knowing what tyre or what setup to be on.
We opted for a big change on springs on the first red flag, which was a big call, but the right one.
Thank you to Team BMW, this extra point is so important, better for me to grab it than someone else.
After today I’m confident we’ll have a fast car tomorrow no matter what the weather throws at us.
Early to bed tonight and arrive in the morning with a fresh head ready to face a new day.
